Zak Jensen is an artist whose work with alphabets, photographs, and symbols—collecting, editing, sequencing, and re-presenting—is offered as sometimes critical, often playful attempts at seeing. This year he published two new artist books, The Knight’s Guy and One Star, which might be about misinterpretation, awe, disappointment, and perspective.
As a creative director and graphic designer, he recently established Business Name, a creative company working with thoughtful people on uncommon ideas, objects, and experiences. Until 2022, he led the Harvard Art Museums museums’ graphic design department and was responsible for the maintenance and evolution of the museums’ brand identity as well as the creative direction and design of all publications, signage, advertising, and other print and digital communications. Before that, he worked as a designer in various contexts on branding, publishing, and product development projects.
As an educator, he’s taught, visited, and spoken at various universities. In 2023 he was appointed Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the University of Utah, where he teaches in the School of Fine arts.
Zak holds a BFA from the University of Utah, an MFA from the Yale School of Art, and currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
